Gardens — A report by La DdC
Autumn heralds the return of one of Crestignac's most eagerly awaited botanical events: the flowering of Vulvarium giganticum. Authorities are calling for calm as the first duchifestations take shape.
A Bloom Awaited with Remarkable Patience
Good news for botany enthusiasts: the flowering season of Vulvarium giganticum is officially open.
This monumental perennial, native to the gardens of Crestignac, is distinguished by its broad, velvety foliage and spectacular inflorescence, consisting of a fleshy, pink-hued spathe surrounding an upright central spadix.
Flowering, generally observed in early autumn, remains difficult to predict.
In some years, several blooms appear in succession. In others, none appear at all.
The Crestignac authorities have never considered this irregularity a cause for concern, pointing out that a plant cannot be held responsible for the expectations it inspires.
Professor Paul Marcus de La Barrière Urges Caution
Consulted on the matter, Professor Paul Marcus de La Barrière, a distinguished specialist in entomological nonnology and stationary observation, advises against jumping to conclusions.
According to him, the absence of an observed bloom does not establish that flowering has not occurred.
Conversely, observing one flower in no way guarantees that another will follow.
The professor is said to have begun an extended observation campaign in front of a mature specimen.
He has so far declined to disclose his initial findings, preferring to wait for them to manifest themselves.
A Grand Duchifestation Announced
The event is already stirring civic enthusiasm.
Several horticultural associations are considering a grand duchifestation in support of flowering, open to supporters, opponents, the undecided, and those with no particular opinion on the matter.
A duchifestation, it should be recalled, is an authorised Crestignacian practice, individual or collective, whose very performance constitutes a positive result.
Organisers stress the peaceful nature of the gathering.
Participants are not required to put forward any particular demands.
Warthogs will, naturally, be welcome, provided they refrain from eating the flowerbeds.
The Duchess Calls for Calm
In a statement issued late this afternoon, the Duchess of Crestignac welcomed citizens' interest in the territory's botanical heritage.
She nevertheless reminded them that an extended period of calm appears to encourage Vulvarium giganticum to bloom.
Accordingly, duchifestation participants are asked to limit their movements, avoid noisy gatherings and, wherever possible, remain at home.
This measure in no way calls the duchifestation into question: its success is assured from the moment it is announced.
The authorities further specify that anyone who has observed no flowers should refrain from disturbing the specimens to verify the absence of flowering.
In Crestignac, autumn looks particularly promising.
The situation has not changed. This proves we have it under control.
