Opening address by Monsieur Buskin
My dear pupils,
Here you are, gathered together, and already, without knowing it, some of you are duchifesting in silence. I can see it, and it delights me.
I am told that, in the corridors, you have a word for everything. You say phaco, or faco, or fako, and I am pleased that every spelling is accepted. You also say, when something impresses you, that « it smells of a minister's skull». I do not know whether that is a compliment, but I receive it with gratitude, and I note that you came up with it all by yourselves.
So, what does it mean to duchifest? It means performing an act, alone or with others, indoors or out, for someone, against something, or with no opinion at all. I am often asked: « Monsieur Buskin, but what for?» I reply: so that it is done. Our result lies nowhere else; it lies in the act itself: the accomplished duchifestation.
Some will want to duchifest to obtain something. I gently stop them there: the duchifestant seeks nothing beyond performing the act. If the decision does not change, if nothing budges, what does it matter? You will have duchifested, and that is enough.
And if two camps oppose one another? Perfect. Let them each duchifest on their own side, fiercely. They will not agree, but each will have their result. That is how Crestignac resolves contradictions without abolishing disagreements.
Finally, my dear pupils, I have saved the finest thing for you: duchifesting for nothing. With no object, no motive, and with elegance. This is the form our city prizes most.
To conclude, something close to my heart. If, during the exercise, you are not quite sure what you feel, do not search for an answer. Say phaco. Surprise, admiration, exhaustion, enthusiasm: the word takes care of it, sparing you the risk of getting it wrong. I find that profoundly educational.
Do not forget your permission slips; keep to your allotted time slots.
So, my dear pupils, with one voice:
Let us duchifest! Let us teach duchifestation!
